Malaysia 2013 National Museum Proof Coins

***A freshly issued set of proof coins commemorating the golden jubilee of the National Museum and of course, this is an extremely popular issue and that's especially so by looking at the long crowd that queued to buy this issue.
This is also a very popular issue because it so happens that there hasn't been any proof coin issues for one year long now and one year is definitely a long time in the numismatic world as lots of numismatic collectors have lots of dough and they don't know what to do with it while waiting for new commemorative issues to come out. Thus, any new issue, regardless of the theme, will be gobbled up.
And talking about museums, of course, the most famous of all should be The Louvre (Musée du Louvre) in Paris as that's the home of 'Mona Lisa' and one might need a week of more to cover every inch of the museum. But of course, there are no Mona Lisa proof coins to buy, even at the 'mini-shop' at The Louvre.

Malaysia 1976 Conservation Series Proof Set Of 3

***Seeing & touching this Set Of 3 Proof coin set from the Conservation Series issued more than 30 years back is definitely a privilege & of course, never a right!
Not many have seen this set in its entirety, esp. with that 1 oz gold coin as its centrepiece.
Of course, the now rather useless & commonly seen Set Of 2 sets are all over the place and many of those that come without boxes in fact have been cleaned as usual by the usual 'cleaners.'
Apparently, this rare Set of 3 set comes in blue & red boxes, the red one being the so-called UK edition. I might be wrong, I could be wrong.

Malaysia 2011 World Wildlife Fund Proof Set Of 2

***The issuance of this WWF's Proof Set series late last year signalled a shift in how the Central Bank sells such coins to the general public, whereby for the 1st time ever, each individual can only buy 1 item and can't queue for a 2nd time.
With this move, all loudmouth dealers have been killed with a stroke of the pen as they now can't get the above item in large quantities (serve them right, these motherfuckers) and another consequence from the Central Bank's action was the strong spike in the prices of the WWF's proof Sets, esp. the Set Of 2 & Single Silver set as no one person 'controls' a huge quantity of them.
It's already predicted in the back alleys & via grapevine that the prices of the these Set Of 2s & Single Silvers will go higher in time to come due to very few available for sale in the sub-sale market, with some dungus saying that the Set Of 2 is destined to touch the RM1,000 mark & with the Single Silver touching the the humble RM800 mark.
And the same learned dungus are saying that the coincards might touch RM80 to RM100 next year.
And actually, for once, I can't help but do tend to agree with these dungus.....

Malaysia 2003 Proof Set Of 3 Islamic Summit Conference (OIC)

***And from the store-room of my former dormitory mate, here comes the seldom-seen Proof Set Of 3 coins issued 8 years back commemorating the 10th Session Of The Islamic Summit Conference, with, of course, the 8.6gm Proof gold coin as its pivotal centre piece.

Apparently, only 250 boxes were issued for this set by the, then, Royal Mint Of Malaysia, and by the way, where have they all gone now as this set is now rarely seen?

Don't tell us that the delegates of the conference had taken them back to the countries where they came from!

With the recent surge in prices for everthing that is Proof & comes with a box & a cert, the open market value for this elusive Set Of 3 must also have shot up, if one were to be invited to take a wild guess....

Malaysia 1985 $25 Silver Proof Coin United Nations Decade For Women

***I was having breakfast with my girlfriend yesterday in Shah Alam & she suggested why don't I drop by at the nearby Pasar Pagi located at the Shah Alam's Stadium as there are a few stalls selling numismatic items there.

My girlfriend should know better as she was born, bred & still lives in Shah Alam.

The stall operated by a very affable guy named Dollah has the most numismatic items, from the usual banknotes to Malaysian error coins and other curios.

Among the items he was selling was this 1985 $25 Silver Proof Coin commemorating the, then, United Nations Decade For Women.

Apparently, including Malaysia, a total of 24 countries issued a similar coin that year with a potpourri of different countries involved, ranging from the, then, Iron Curtain police state of Bulgaria to banana republics like Sudan, then Marxist Ethiopia & Yemen.
I bought this coin from Dollah for RM350. He has 4 sets & has encouraged me to buy them all as he claimed that RM350 was very cheap.

But according to the now world-famous & highly respected Steven Tan's current up-to-date numismatic catalogue, this coin is catalogued at only a lowly RM300.

The catalogue price as per Steven Tan's catalogue should be the correct current market price as this is the definitive Malaysian numismatic reference book & has been so for so many years now & will be so for a long, long time to come.

Luckily, I did not buy all the 4 boxes, otherwise, I would have overpaid RM50 for each box.

Apparently, this Pasar Pagi is open everyday/morning.

Malaysia 2010 Actor P Ramlee's Copper Medallion

*** This is a Copper 'coin' just issued by KL Mint featuring the vignette of the late actor, P Ramlee.
It comes with a box & with a COA and since it bears no face value, it is actually a medallion.
This copper medallion has definitely been proof-struck.

Malaysia 2010 Survey & Mapping Dept Proof Set Of 2 Coins

***A Set Of 2 Proof Coins issued to commemorate the 125th Anniversary of The Survey & Mapping Department Of Malaysia.
This Set Of 2 seems to be an elusive issue as very few were sold over the counter by the Central and hardly anyone sells it online.

Malaysia 2000 Shah Alam City Coin-Card

***This Year 2000 Bandaraya Shah Alam Coin-Card carries the highest current market value for all the various coin-cards ever issued in Malaysia.
Even though the 'Approved Mintage' was 10,000 pieces, it is believed that very much less than that were minted, resulting with this coin-card being 'cornered.'
